Last week, unphased by Storm Darragh, 200 guests from the Exeter and Teign Valley area attended a night of live music from local band 'Joey the Lips' at Dunsford’s historical Great Fulford Estate.

The event aimed to raise money for Exeter’s Searle House, a specialist Hospiscare ward for patients in need of round-the-clock care.

Hospiscare is currently facing a funding shortfall of £2.5 million in 2024-25. This is due to inequitable funding from the Devon Integrated Care Board, combined with rising everyday costs, including energy, fuel, food, and NHS salaries, all exacerbated by the ongoing cost of living crisis.

The event was organised by Dunsford local Beth Webber, who was inspired to raise money for end-of-life care after the sad passing of her mother in 2018.

Beth and her family have been involved in many fundraisers since, including the yearly ‘Run 4 Rosie’ event for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Beth, along with her team from Dunsford, Exeter, and Chagford, and with assistance from local business owners [Mrs H Interiors, Exeter Brewery, Utopian Brewery, Sampford Orchard, Simon’s Kitchen, Hold It Down, Teign House Inn, and the Fulford family], all came together to make this wonderful night possible.

The Fulford fundraiser has generated upwards of £4,500, which will help cover nearly 96 hours of work at Searle House.

There is still time to donate to help the cause for our local care specialists - for donation details, click here.

Beth also has an upcoming fundraiser event called ‘Celebrate a Life’. This includes a small service of carols, poems, mulled wine, and mince pies, with a collection for Hospiscare, Cancer Research, and the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
