Exeter Northcott Theatre is back and bigger than ever with over 100 exciting new shows, including a highly anticipated return to Shakespeare!

After a three-year hiatus, the theatre will be bringing ‘Romeo & Juliet’ to the stage, marking its first home-produced Shakespeare in over a decade.

Directed by Martin Berry, who has a knack for making the Bard come alive (he’s directed seven of Shakespeare’s plays), the production will also feature a mix of professional actors and young local talent. Talk about a star-crossed affair!

“I’m thrilled to be bringing Shakespeare back to our iconic stage, with a first-rate professional cast alongside young local talent,” says Berry, who is also the theatre’s Creative Director. “Like our entire Spring/Summer programme, this production has been shaped by conversations with our community about what they want to see on our stages. We’re not just about world-class theatre – we want everyone to have the chance to play a part in it.”

Along with ‘Romeo & Juliet’, the Northcott’s Spring/Summer 2025 programme offers something for everyone.

There are several new, ongoing community groups, including Encore Dance for those over 50, The Northcott People’s Company for drama enthusiasts, and The Northcott Theatre Choir.

Plus, if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at Shakespeare, the theatre is offering ‘Exploring Romeo & Juliet’ workshops for both kids and adults.

Not to be outdone, the Northcott is also featuring a series of one-off events, including the Devon Choirs Big Weekender – a weekend packed with choir performances, industry workshops, and all-around musical fun.

And for those who appreciate a bit of dark comedy, ‘Pot Licker’ by Ed Viney, a regular in South West theatres, will be serving up laughs, while ‘Five Little Monkeys’ brings a family-friendly show to the Barnfield Theatre.

Other highlights include the return of ‘…Earnest?’, an Edinburgh Fringe favourite, and the hilarious West End hit ‘Pride and Prejudice (*sort of)’.

Plus, the season is as inclusive as it gets, with audio-described, sign-language interpreted, captioned, and relaxed performances available for a variety of shows.

And it’s not all about big productions. Exeter Northcott is also supporting local artists with shows like ‘Is Anybody There?’, an interactive documentary theatre performance inspired by Jon Nash’s experiences at the University of Exeter.

Wherefore art thou, theatre lovers? Get ready for an unforgettable season of theatre.
