East Devon District Council (EDDC) wants residents and visitors to share their views on how to manage coastal flooding and erosion at Exmouth Beach.

Councillor Geoff Jung, EDDC’s Portfolio Holder for Coast, Country, and Environment, said:

'Exmouth’s beach is constantly changing. Rising sea levels, weather patterns, and tidal flows all affect it. We need a plan to manage this dynamic coastline for residents and visitors.'

The consultation focuses on three options for the stretch between Orcombe Point and Exmouth Marina. The three options being considered are:

  • Option One: The National Economic Leading Option, designed to secure the most government funding.
  • Option Two: The Local Aspirational Leading Option, offering wider community benefits.
  • Option Three: The Back-Up Option, which continues small-scale repairs and maintenance.

Councillor Jung added:

'This isn’t just about managing the sea defences. It’s about keeping Exmouth’s beach as a key attraction and part of our community.'

The consultation closes at 5pm, February 10 2025, and feedback will help the council decide on the best way forward.

To learn more, attend the drop-in event at Exmouth Town Hall on Tuesday 26 November, 2pm. to 7pm. The project team will be there to explain the options and answer questions.

For more information, visit the consultation website or request a paper copy by calling 01404 515 616 or emailing exmouthbmp@eastdevon.gov.uk.

'We’re planning ahead to protect the beach for future generations,' Councillor Jung said. 'Your input is vital.'
