An Exeter performance hub is opening its second premises in the city.
From their existing Coombe Street premises, which launched just a year ago, Cameron Mills Group offer fun, inspiring lessons for both children and adults in music, broadcasting,
Uniquely, the school also serves as a focal point for musicians throughout Exeter and the Devon region by providing fully-equipped rehearsal spaces and a recording studio – all available for hire – and a talent agency, enabling performers to build genuine music industry connections.
Since launching last September, the group has enjoyed phenomenal success with a boom in student numbers, new courses launching and winning several awards including Best New Business at the Exeter Living Awards and two Highly Commended Awards at the Exeter Impact Awards.
Founder and owner, Cameron Mills, was also awarded the Lord Mayor’s Commendation from Councillor Kevin Mitchell earlier this year.
The new premises will open on September 13 and be home to Yamaha Music School Exeter, a state-of-the-art music production studio, two fully equipped Mac suites and Studio 54, a commercial recording studio.
This new school term also sees the launch of several new clubs and courses for 7-18 year olds including Young Comedians, Young Animators, Young Songwriters and Young Voice Actors, in addition to their existing timetable of Young Broadcasters, Young DJs, Young Sound Engineers and The Rock Project Devon.
Talking about the expansion of their offering, Cameron said: “We are thrilled to be opening another set of doors to the local community, giving them a chance to freely explore and nurture their creativity.
“There really is nothing else like this in the South West. We exist to make incredible opportunities available to children of all ages and ability, and adults who’ve always harboured musical dreams. If a child wants to explore stand-up comedy, sound engineering, a career in radio, learning an instrument, playing in a rock band, plus a whole lot more, they can come and try it on for size.
“There’s no judgement or pressure in our teaching, and we’ve found time and again that our students blossom based on our fun approach. We’re here to make extra-curricular extraordinary.”
The school has the backing of some significant names in the music industry, including Richard Hilton (keys player with CHIC), Stuart Epps (producer for Elton John, Oasis, Led Zepplin), and Sam Hiller (Associate Director of Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera in London's West End). They are joined by a number of other notable musicians as patrons of the school.
