Exeter Northcott Theatre has launched its fifth annual Pay It Forward campaign by gifting an initial 200 tickets for its upcoming pantomime, Cinderella.
The theatre is partnering with South West-based charities to give the tickets to local people who might not otherwise be able to enjoy theatre at Christmas. Three partner organisations have been confirmed: Children’s Hospice South West, LiveWest, and bereavement support charity Balloons.
Claire Hammond, Volunteer Coordinator and Activity Days Manager at Balloons attended a performance of last year’s pantomime, Dick Whittington, with a number of the families who the charity supports. She said:
“It was so good to see the children and their families laughing and really enjoying themselves. You cannot imagine how special this is for them or how wonderful it was for me to see them having so much fun. At Balloons we normally work with the children in the depths of their grief, so to see them so happy was a joy to behold.”
Last year, the campaign received remarkable public support, with 2625 people donating and over 680 tickets gifted. This year, Exeter Northcott plans to gift tickets for The Elves and the Shoemaker at the Barnfield Theatre as well as for its beloved pantomime, extending the experience to younger children for the first time.
