Will political candidates have the wit to woo nature lovers?

Will political candidates have the wit to woo nature lovers?

The event will be led with a focus on nature

Devon Wildlife Trust is organising a special event, so Devon residents can hear how political parties plan to bring nature back.

The charity's hustings will be attended by the following party representatives:

  • Robert Bagnall, Green Party, South Devon
  • Richard Foord, Liberal Democrat, Tiverton & Honiton
  • Steve Race, Labour, Exeter
  • Selaine Saxby, Conservatives, North Devon

A spokesperson said: "The event will be led with a focus on nature and we will be asking candidates questions posed by our nature partners, RSPB and The Woodland Trust, as well as our own questions. Importantly, this is also an opportunity for you to ask candidates your questions about nature issues where you live.

"Nature is in urgent need of restoration – for the sake of wildlife, for our rivers, for food security, and for our climate. Surveys conducted by The Wildlife Trusts show that, regardless of political affiliation, the protection and restoration of nature is a common, pressing concern among voters.

"This year will be a defining one for nature recovery because of the General Election, due on July 4. The UK committed to national and international targets to halt nature’s decline and protect 30 percent of land and sea by 2030. The next government will have to do the bulk of the work to get us on track."

The hustings are taking place from 6pm to 7.30pm on Monday 10 June. To attend, register here.
