Daredevils take the plunge to raise cash

Participants descend from the Cathedral roof

More than 50 brave individuals took part in an exhilarating abseil event down the iconic 140-foot Exeter Cathedral North Tower.

Among those with nerves of steel was Anne Eyre, the widow of a former Dean of Exeter, who spearheaded the initiative.

The abseil had been planned to mark Mrs Eyre's 80th birthday in 2020. However, due to the challenges posed by the pandemic, the event had to be postponed

Mrs Eyre led the charge by being the first to descend the walls of the Norman Tower, setting an inspiring tone for the day's festivities.

The success of the event exceeded all expectations, with the cathedral not only meeting but doubling its targeted raising more than £50,000.
