Eco award for Exeter Cathedral

Eco award for Exeter Cathedral

There have been significant improvements at Exeter Cathedral

Exeter Cathedral has been awarded Silver by A Rocha’s Eco Church Scheme, following significant improvements to community engagement and creation care.

Winning aspects of the Cathedral’s application include recent building projects using locally sourced marble and stone, efficient underfloor heating and the use of recycled glass. Community engagement projects included hosting a BioBlitz event last year in partnership with Devon Wildlife Trust, which contributed valuable biodiversity data from the Cathedral grounds.

To qualify for A Rocha’s Eco Church award, churches and cathedrals must complete an online survey that focuses on five key areas of church life. These include worship and teaching, management of church buildings, management of church land, community and global engagement and lifestyle.

The award will be presented to Exeter Cathedral by The Right Revd Jackie Searle, Acting Bishop of Exeter, at a special Eco Church Celebration on Sunday 28 April.
