Students enjoy trip of a lifetime

The students enjoyed the sights of New York City

During the Easter holidays, 14 students from Exeter and the surrounding area embarked upon a trip of a lifetime to New York City.

The students, all members of Theatretrain Exeter, spent six days exploring and performing in the city.

They joined 16 other students from Theatretrain’s Musical Theatre group in Tavistock to form a troupe of 30 performers. It was a busy and tiring week but the students had lots of fun!

Some of the itinerary included:

* A trip to Central Park for photos

* A TV and Movies Location Tour

* A visit to the Top of the Rock observation deck.

* Exploring Grand Central Station

* The Statue of Liberty

* Shopping in Macy’s

The students also worked with two Broadway professionals on a Broadway Workshop based around Chicago, they then walked across Brooklyn Bridge before heading back up to Broadway to watch the musical Kimberly Akimbo and to meet the cast.

After a backstage tour of Radio City Musical Hall they headed up to Central Park to perform in the Naumburg Bandshell. This was an unforgettable experience for all involved.

Company Director Paul Clark said: “When I think about their amazing performance in Central Park, it just reminds me why we run these trips. The students have been incredible all week. Polite, positive, full of energy and a real pleasure to spend time with. I am so proud of each and every one of them.

"I guess this is what makes us different from other local groups. Yes, we teach the basic performing arts skills of acting, singing and dancing each week, but it’s these extra opportunities and our family feel that make us special.

"Whether it’s our musical theatre groups or our main company, these opportunities are available to all. The life skills these 30 students have learnt this past week will be invaluable in the future and the memories and friendships formed will last a lifetime.”

 Theatretrain Exeter meets every Saturday morning from 10am - 1pm at West Exe School and is open to students aged 4-18 years. For more information, visit www.theatretrain.co.uk/exeter or email exeter@theatretrain.co.uk.
