New Devon walking and swimming guide launched

The launch takes place at Exeter's Bookbag

The coast, rivers and countryside of North Devon and Exmoor are celebrated in a new walking and wild swimming guide by Matt Newbury and Sophie Pierce.

And you can meet the duo at a special launch at Bookbag in Exeter on Friday April 5 between 6.30pm and 8pm.

From the famous hanging waterfalls of North Devon, to the hogsback cliffs of Exmoor, and the great rivers Exe and Barle, the book guides walkers and swimmers through a series of adventures, taking in locations on the coast and inland, across a wide area including Hartland,  Appledore, Lundy, Umberleigh, Tiverton, Braunton, Croyde and Exeter.

Wild Swimming Walks Exmoor and North Devon (out on April 1) is the fifth book by Sophie and Matt, who love sharing the joy of exploring Devon’s incredible coast and countryside.

It contains 28 circular walks; each contains one or more swims, either in the sea, river or lakes, with practical information including maps and directions, as well as descriptions of the scenery, history and geology, and lots of photographs.

For Sophie and Matt, it is all about empowering people to explore the wonderful countryside on their own doorstep.

Sophie said: “We are fortunate to live in such a stunning part of the world, it’s something we perhaps take for granted. The coast of North Devon is unparallelled in its beauty, as is the countryside inland. We want people to discover the joy of going on adventures close to home. And by swimming as well as walking, the whole experience of being outdoors in nature is enriched.”
