Michael Caines with Si and Dave
The airing of the last episode of The Hairy Bikers Go West this week was a poignant moment for celebrity chef Michael Caines MBE.
Si and Dave paid a visit to Lympstone Manor where Dave headed into the kitchen with Michael to prepare and cook a special scallop dish with Exmoor caviar and a fillet of beef.
It was a bitter-sweet experience for Michael as Dave passed away a few months after filming.
Speaking of the experience, Michael said: “The Hairy Bikers Dave Myers and Si King's visit to Lympstone Manor, here in Devon, was a very special event and occasion for us all. I’ve enjoyed working with them both on a number of occasions but have never had the privilege to cook for them.
"This also felt very special, especially as it was journey's end for filming this series, and we were able to raise and share a glass together. It's hard to think that Dave is no longer with us, but his memory lives on through his work and it feels very special to know we were able to share those moments together, making it all the more precious. It was a fitting tribute to Dave's life, thanks for letting me be part of it."
Dave died at the age of 66, two years after revealing he had been diagnosed with cancer.
