The Princess Royal
The Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA) has announced the appointment of HRH, The Princess Royal, as President for the 2025 Devon County Show. This exciting news was revealed at the Association’s annual meeting on January 31st.
Her Royal Highness, the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and sister to HM The King, has a long history of commitment to food, farming, and rural life.
She runs her own farm and estate in Gloucestershire, and is known for her pioneering spirit as the first member of the Royal Family to compete in the Olympic Games, riding The Queen’s horse, Goodwill, in equestrian events.
The Princess Royal succeeds renowned Michelin-star chef Michael Caines MBE DL, who held the post of President prior to her appointment.
Commenting on the news, DCAA members expressed their enthusiasm about Her Royal Highness's leadership, given her wealth of experience and passion for agriculture.
She will be supported throughout her tenure by Deputy President Roger Ellis, a fourth-generation farmer from Dunchideock. Roger, who has a long-standing connection to the Devon County Show, has been involved in the event for over 60 years and most recently served as Chief Steward of the Horse section.
Roger Ellis shared his thoughts, saying: “I am honoured to take up the Deputy Presidency and will greatly enjoy supporting The Princess Royal during her year as President, especially given our shared passion for horses and rural life. This year also marks a special occasion for my wife, Mary, and me - our diamond wedding anniversary. It’s shaping up to be a memorable year.”
The 2025 Devon County Show will take place on May 15th, 16th, and 17th.
