West Country estate agents, Wilkinson Grant & Co, concluded a successful 2024 by securing the sale of 'The Manor House,' a stunning Grade I listed stately home nestled in the Devon countryside near Bradninch - just a twenty-five minute drive from Exeter City Centre.

Listed with a guide price of £2,000,000, this historic property attracted global interest.

Built in 1547 for Peter Sainthill, a local Member of Parliament, The Manor House boasts a rich history. The central block was rebuilt in brick around 1712, and the house retains a significant amount of fine Jacobean woodwork. Notably, King Charles I once slept in the main bedroom, adding to the property's historical significance.

Set within seven acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, the estate features a magnificent lake, a winding driveway, stables, and an indoor swimming pool. The Manor House offers over 9,000 square feet of internal space, including exquisite reception rooms adorned with original features, six bedrooms, and a self-contained one-bedroom apartment on the second floor.

Associate Director Andrew Moores commented on the sale: "The new owners have chosen a new life deep in the Devon countryside in a rare and unique house steeped in British history. Often these sales are market resilient and depend on the right timings, but with our soon-to-be Devon residents relocating internationally, the UK (and Devon) was an attractive destination.

Mr. Moores also highlighted the growing appeal of Exeter and the surrounding Devon countryside as a relocation destination, particularly for international buyers. With 'several competing parties' expressing interest in The Manor House, it's clear that the region’s mix of historical charm and scenic beauty continues to attract attention from across the globe.

Despite the challenges of recent years, the housing market in 2025 is expected to remain strong and resilient, driven by a combination of stable investment opportunities and the enduring desirability of the UK as a safe and attractive place to live.

Mr. Moores added, "In fact, several competing interested parties were also looking to settle from overseas. The headwinds in 2025 seem relatively moderate compared to recent years, and so we expect a strong and consistent market in the short to mid-term, with the UK remaining an attractive and safe place to live and for investment."
