Exeter Chiefs have announced their squad for the much-anticipated return to Gallagher Premiership action, traveling to face Bath Rugby at the Recreation Ground in Round Seven on Saturday evening.

Fresh off a commanding Premiership Rugby Cup performance against Gloucester, where they secured a bonus-point victory with five tries, the Chiefs have opted for continuity in their forward pack, retaining the same starting eight.

The front row trio of Scott Sio (loosehead), Dan Frost (hooker), and Marcus Street (tighthead) will look to maintain their dominance in the set-piece.

In the second row, Rusi Tuima and Richard Capstick partner again, while the back row features Ethan Roots on the blindside, Jacques Vermeulen on the openside, and Greg Fisilau anchoring at number eight.

Henry Slade, returning from international duty with England, slots into the fly-half role for the first time since April 2022. He will pair with Stu Townsend at scrum-half in a move that highlights the Chiefs' adaptability.

The midfield sees Will Rigg retain his starting position alongside Tamati Tua, rewarded for strong performances in the cup. In the back three, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso makes a return on the wing, joined by Tommy Wyatt and Josh Hodge.

The Chiefs will be without key players Jack Dunne, Dafydd Jenkins, Christ Tshiunza, and Olly Woodburn, who are unavailable due to injury.

Exeter’s Director of Rugby, Rob Baxter, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to carry momentum from their cup campaign into league action.

“The cup block and the results we’ve had have allowed the lads to play some good rugby and showcase their strengths. Now, it’s about maintaining that as we step back into the Premiership,” said Baxter.

He acknowledged Bath’s form and praised their head coach Johann van Graan: “Bath have been playing very well. They were finalists last year and have built one of the strongest squads in the Premiership. It’s going to be a tough challenge for us, but that’s what the Premiership should be about.”

The Chiefs’ bench includes potential Premiership debutant Jimmy Roots, joined by Jack Innard and Will Goodrick-Clarke in the front row replacements. International reinforcements Franco Molina (Argentina) and Ross Vintcent (Italy) bolster the squad after their return from national duties. Backline options off the bench include Will Becconsall, Will Haydon-Wood, and Ben Hammersley.

Facing a Bath side brimming with confidence, the Chiefs are ready to test their mettle. “It should be the best rugby you can play,” Baxter added. “I’m looking forward to it. My message to the players is simple: get your heads up and just play.”

Kick-off at the Recreation Ground is set for Saturday evening, promising an intense encounter between two sides eager to make their mark in the Premiership.
