Exeter Chiefs are celebrating a remarkable achievement as three of their players receive nominations in three distinct categories for the prestigious World Rugby Awards 2024.

With the World Rugby Awards ceremony taking place in Monaco today, the Chiefs’ trio stands as a testament to the club’s commitment to developing top-tier talent.

Leading the nominations is Alex Tessier, who has earned a spot among the four finalists for the Women’s 15s Player of the Year.

Known for her impressive versatility and skill in the midfield, Tessier’s nomination comes after a standout year, including a stellar performance in the WXV tournament.

The 50-cap Canadian international has long been a key figure for the Chiefs, and her place among the world’s elite is a fitting recognition of her exceptional talent.

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, one of the rising stars of men’s rugby, has been nominated for Men’s 15s Breakthrough Player of the Year.

The winger’s rapid rise to prominence has seen him make a significant impact both for Exeter Chiefs and England, earning his debut during the 2024 Six Nations.

His blistering pace and try-scoring prowess have earned him recognition as one of the most exciting young players in the game today.

Meanwhile, Maddie Feaunati has been nominated for Women’s 15s Breakthrough Player of the Year.

The powerful New Zealand-born athlete, who made an immediate impression in her debut season with Exeter Chiefs, continues to make waves on the international stage.

Feaunati’s talent was solidified with her Red Roses debut in March, and her meteoric rise to stardom shows no signs of slowing down.

World Rugby Chief Executive Alan Gilpin praised all nominees, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the sport and their ability to inspire fans worldwide. “In a calendar year that saw fantastic 15s tournaments and sevens competitions including a ground-breaking Olympic Games in Paris, they have shone brightly and inspired fans worldwide, showcasing the best of our sport and its values,” he said.

The winners will be revealed  later day in Monaco during an awards ceremony held under the High Patronage of H.S.H Princess Charlene of Monaco.

Chiefs Women’s Head Coach Susie Appleby expressed immense pride in Tessier and Feaunati’s nominations. “Tess had an excellent WXV tournament, really lighting up that Canada back line with a run and kick game that showed what a world-class player she is,” Appleby said. “Maddie has almost appeared from nowhere, coming across from the other side of the world in New Zealand. She’s a really powerful athlete who has been making a real impression on world rugby at a very young age.”

Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter also shared his pride for Feyi-Waboso’s nomination. “This nomination really highlights what an incredible 18 months Manny has had,” Baxter said. “He’s worked incredibly hard to become part of our first team, and his international opportunities have been remarkable. As the youngest player on the list, it’s incredible to think what level he could reach.”

As the Chiefs continue to develop players who excel on both domestic and international stages, these nominations are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and potential of these young stars.

With the World Rugby Awards results looming, all eyes will be on Monaco to see if Exeter’s talents will secure the ultimate recognition in rugby.
