Three care workers have been arrested at a care home in Exmouth over allegations of violence and wilful neglect towards residents.
Devon and Cornwall Police were recently notified following concerns regarding the care of residents at Knappe Cross Care Centre in Brixington Lane, Exmouth.
A statement from the police reads: “Officers have commenced a criminal investigation regarding activity at the home, which has resulted in three staff members being arrested. They have been released on police bail whilst we undertake further enquiries.
“Police are working closely with Devon County Council Adult Safeguarding Services and the Care Quality Commission to ensure that any inappropriate activity is dealt with promptly and appropriately and any lessons are learned for the future.”
Police have said that robust safeguarding arrangements are now in place, and that the safety and ongoing care of the residents remains the utmost priority consideration for all of the professional agencies involved.
Knappe Cross Care Centre opened in 1987 and can offer personal and nursing care for up to 42 elderly people.
Its last Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection published in February 2023 said that the categories 'safe' and 'well-led' required improvement.
This rating means that the service isn't performing as well as it should and that is has been told how it must improve.
