The award-winning gift shop has been trading since 2014 but recently decided to continue focusing on selling gifts while also incorporating a café element.

“Retail has been really tough in the last sort of year and a half," says Justine Hyde, owner of Hyde and Seek.

“We wanted to diversify the business and keep the retail side of it going, so we thought, Let's add a coffee element. It’s worked in a few other places we visited, and I’ve actually got a background in catering myself, so that’s really why we've decided to take the plunge."

The cosy eatery offers a selection of hot drinks, cakes, and savoury bites and has been seamlessly integrated into the two floors of the vibrant gift shop.

The store boasts a truly unique retail space and interior design, selling products that are often bright, colourful, and quirky.

InExeter, Exeter’s Business Improvement District (BID) announced the new opening on its social media channels, garnering a positive response from users who remarked on the cafe's attractive design and relaxing atmosphere.

The cafe has been open for around three weeks and has so far welcomed a real mix of customers.

Justine added: “We’re really passionate about creating a greater community. We want to try and make this a kind of social hub in the centre of town and use the space for courses and evening events. Everyone is welcome!”

Justine also hinted that some of these evenings are already beginning to take shape and that meetings are underway to make them a reality.
