This weekend, Cranbrook Town Council is hosting an official community event to celebrate the opening of a brand new pump track.

A pump track is a purpose-built cycle track that offers riders the unique experience of gathering and maintaining momentum through a technique known as pumping.

The new track will be located within the award-winning Cranbrook Country Park and will be free to use and open to all skill levels, whether you’re on a bicycle, scooter, roller skate, or skateboard.

It was developed by Cranbrook Town Council and co-funded through a partnership between the town council, East Devon District Council, and a Sport England grants programme called Move More Cranbrook.

Those who attend the community opening event will get to try out the track and see live demonstrations from professional BMX riders and locally-grown young talents.

The event promises to be a real celebration with games, competitions, and prizes for all those who want to get involved.

Councillor Les Bayliss, Chairman of Cranbrook Town Council, said: “The Cranbrook Pump Track marks another exciting development in the town, joining the award-winning 35-hectare Cranbrook Country Park, five popular play areas, and the vibrant Skate Park. This new attraction is already generating buzz among residents.

“Cranbrook Town Council is committed to making the town a hub for healthy and active living for people of all ages. Special thanks to East Devon District Council and Move More Cranbrook for their funding and support in bringing this fantastic facility to life.”

Move More Cranbrook’s Matt Rowett also stressed the importance of having facilities that help people be more active.

Matt added: “Move More Cranbrook is committed to enabling people in the town to move more; however, they choose to do that. It’s not about running marathons, but finding small ways to be more active every day.

“Watching all ages and abilities circle around the pump track is really exciting, and we can’t wait for it to be launched officially with a celebration. There will be heaps going on for those without a bike too.”

The opening event will take place on Saturday, September 21, between 12pm and 3pm, in Cranbrook Country Park, Exeter.

It has a postcode of EX5 3BA and a what3words location of: ///back.surprised.grumbles.
