Exeter City Women faced a late setback as Ipswich Town rallied from two goals down to draw 2-2.

The Grecians, playing at home for the third time in a week, began with an unchanged lineup following their impressive 4-0 win at Lewes.

The match started positively for Exeter, with Amber Pollock creating an opportunity for Zoe Cunningham, who narrowly missed scoring.

Despite Ipswich’s efforts to counter, Exeter capitalised on a defensive error and took the lead after a goal by Sophie Gillies.

Exeter maintained their slim lead going into halftime thanks to strong defensive efforts from Pollock and Bow Jackson.

Exeter extended their lead in the second half after Stacey assisted Gillies for her second goal, showcasing excellent skill.

However, Ipswich increased their pressure and eventually scored through Ella Rutherford, who found the net with a free kick into the bottom corner.

As the game neared its end, Ipswich equalised with just two minutes until the final whistle, with Rutherford scoring again from the penalty area.

Although disappointed by the late draw, Exeter City Women remain at the top of the league.

Their solid performance, especially the effective partnership between Gillies and Stacey, along with a strong defence, suggests they could be serious contenders in the Southern Premier this season.
