Nicholle Cherrie
Award-winning theatre production Black Is The Colour Of My Voice will perform in Exeter this September to much anticipation.
Inspired by the life of Nina Simone, a successful American jazz singer and civil rights activist, Apphia Campell’s acclaimed play follows Nina’s journey of seeking redemption after the untimely death of her father.
Performed by Nicholle Cherrie, the show follows Nina as she reflects on her journey from a young piano prodigy destined for a life in the church to a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.
The show features live performances of many of Nina’s most iconic songs and has received standing ovations nationally and internationally, from Shanghai and New York to Edinburgh and the West End of London.
It recently toured Australia and won the Best Theatre Award at Adelaide Fringe 2024.
Nicholle boasts an impressive range of theatre credits, including roles in Soon (Eclipse), Mansfield Park (Watermill), Splintered (Soho), Black Love (Kiln), 15 Heroines (Jermyn Street), Girl From The North Country (Gielgud/Toronto), Richard II (Shakespeare’s Globe), Leave Taking (Bush), Mamma Mia (Cyprus), and Jesus Christ Superstar (Regent’s Park). She has also appeared on television in Doctors (BBC).
Apphia, who is originally from the United States, wrote Black Is The Colour Of My Voice in 2013.
She made her West End debut with Black Is The Colour Of My Voice in 2019 at Trafalgar Studios.
The two performances will take place at the Northcott Theatre on September 10 and September 11 at 7:30pm.
Tickets are £22, and the age guidance is over 12.
