Make sure you are eligible to vote

Polling stations will be open later this year

It’s election year and with polls taking place in Exeter, people are being reminded to make sure they are eligible to vote.

Elections for Exeter City Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly will take place on Thursday May 2, with polling stations open across the city from 7am to 10pm.

It’s vital that people are on the electoral register if they want to vote, especially with a parliamentary election also expected within the next 12 months.

People who are not already on the electoral  register can register to vote by visiting the Electoral Commission website here

Many residents elect to vote by post and postal applications in Exeter are now open. Registering for a postal vote is easy and can be done online on the City Council website here.

Once again, all voters on the day will need to ensure that they have the correct voter identification to hand.

The City Council will be sending out details of what is needed along with polling cards nearer the elections. To find out more about voter ID, visit the Electoral Commission website here.
