The top recyclers with the awards

A collaboration between Exeter-based Coastal Recycling, and UPP, the provider of on-campus accommodation at the University of Exeter has been a huge success.

In 2022 Coastal noticed the recycling rates amongst students needed a boost, so they worked with the UPP team to implement some new initiatives.

These included:

✔ Segregation of the waste at source
✔ New colour coded bin signage
✔ A competition to see which student flat put the most effort into their recycling

The drive continued in 2023 when Coastal produced stickers and more signage, increased communications and ran another competition.

Latest figures show that recycling rates have risen by 43% and there’s been a 13% reduction in general waste.

Some the top recyclers received competition prizes of Just Eat vouchers.
