Join Local Enterprise Manager James Court on Tuesday February 6 when he welcomes Great British Entrepreneur of the Year winner, Samantha Jackman as she shares her inspirational business journey from product innovation, fundraising, scaling up and developing global contracts.

When her mother had issues with her NHS silicone gel prosthesis following her mastectomy, Sam wondered whether other women were experiencing the same issues. As it turned out, they were!

Boost is an SME based in Cornwall that was founded to support women after their breast cancer treatment, offering a radically new design of breast form that has been labelled a ‘gamechanger’.

The invention has now been patented in the US, EU and UK, with interest in the product around the world, from charities in Nigeria to physios in Australia seeking to order Boost Breast Forms to support their clients’ recovery.

Although she has always considered herself as an ambitious and creative person, Sam did not anticipate that her career (spanning roles in teaching, heritage, museums and business support) would see her running her own successful business.

With Boost now reaching a key scale-up phase, Sam talks openly about the highs and lows of developing female-focussed start-up. With partnerships in the pipeline with the NHS, national retailers and with plans to break into the US market, it’s never been busier. Sam has finally become more comfortable with the term ‘entrepreneur’ as a way of describing what she does.
