An artist's impression of the new Sixth Form building
The Board of Governors at Exeter College have agreed a new £12m building to enhance the facilities for academic learners, and further contribute to the city’s future success.
Exeter College’s new Sixth Form Centre will replace the current Baker Building and host 25 new classrooms to meet the demand of an increase in learners looking to achieve academic qualifications such as A Levels, T Levels, and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
At a time when the government is hoping to drive more academic rigour through the new Advanced British Standard (ABS), it is essential the college invests in the very best facilities to ensure local students can study in world-class facilities to enable them to compete for the very best university places and have the skills to secure sector-leading jobs.
The college is currently working on the design for the building with the aim of commencing work in January 2024 and completing in July 2025.
The proposed building will be a BREEAM excellent accredited building, made up of a mixture of amazing teaching spaces, a staff room, social and study spaces, lecture theatre, exam testing suite and a moot chamber (where the college's award-winning debating teams can practise and a space where its aspiring lawyers will be able to stage mock-trials).
There will also be changing facilities for cyclists and runners, to assist those that travel to college in this way.
