Exeter showcases active city plans

Exeter’s leisure facilities and plans to get local people more active have been highlighted during a visit by a national delegation.

Around 30 representatives from Sport England pilot projects around the country came to the city.

They visited the council's state-of-the-art leisure centre St Sidwell’s Point and heard about the city’s Live and Move programme, which aims to increase activity levels to boost health and wellbeing in Exeter and Cranbrook.

Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for Leisure and Physical Activity, said: “It was great to meet people from all over the country and explain what we are doing to help people to become more active here in Exeter.

“Having a chance to show people around our fantastic leisure centre St Sidwell’s Point is always welcome, and they were certainly impressed by what they saw.

“We are boosting activity levels through our Live and Move Sport England programme, and the council continues to invest heavily in our leisure service and facilities, not just at St Sidwell’s Point but right across the city.”

Russ, one of the delegates from Sport England, said: “It has been incredibly positive to be here along with colleagues from the rest of the country and to see the work taking place in Exeter and Cranbrook.

“The plans around community engagement and connecting people are really positive. Increasing activity levels nationally is a major challenge, so to see the approach here in Exeter, with organisations working together, has been great to see.”
