ECFC 2019 cup game attracts lowest attendance ever

December 5, 2019 - Exeter City recorded its lowest ever home attendance for a first team match with just 483 fans attending a Football League Trophy game against Oxford United.

The match finished 0-0 after 90 minutes and Exeter City won 3-0 on penalties. Of the 483 fans present, 130 had made the 340-mile round trip from Oxford.

The previous lowest attendance at St James Park saw just 779 fans attended an EFL Trophy clash against Swindon in November 2016.

However, the competition's lowest ever attendance was in November 2018, when 202 fans attended Pirelli Stadium to watch Burton Albion lose 1-0 to Middlesbrough's academy team.

Some fans have criticised the competition after a decision was made to allow U21 teams to participate.

St James Park has undergone extensive redevelopments that were completed in October 2018 and now has a capacity of 8,679, including space for 1000 away fans.

This means that Exeter City's game filled just 5.57% of the stadium's entire capacity.
