University forges closer links with business community

Chris Evans, Director of Exeter Innovation

In Dix’s Field at the northern end of Southernhay, a glass-fronted edifice that was once a tourist information office has been transformed into the Exeter Innovation Hub, where city-based organisations and SMEs can engage with the university to access knowledge, skills, ideas and business support.

“It’s about bringing the front door of the university into the city and facilitating a closer connection with local businesses and organisations by being visible and accessible” says Joe Pearce, Head of Business Support at the University of Exeter and mastermind behind the project.

Engaging with business is crucial to the University of Exeter’s aim of harnessing its research, education and partnerships to create real and lasting impact in the world.

This has gained momentum through some eye-catching initiatives in the past year: Exeter Innovation has rebranded and is rethinking how the university works with businesses to help them innovate, grow and access the skills they need.

Chris Evans, Director of Exeter Innovation said: “We work with organisations to understand their needs and connect them with the right researchers and educators for the task at hand. While our strengths are vast, our offer is simple. Whatever your needs – whether it’s workforce development, academic insight, or cutting-edge facilities – we will help you find the best solution.”
