Exeter Chiefs had a tough day at the office as form on the road continues to allude Rob Baxter’s side as small errors and margins hampered them against a strong, in-form Northampton Saints side.
Following a pre-kick off ceremony to mark Remembrance Sunday, both teams were firmly in game-mode, unfortunately Chiefs’ search for form on the road to claim their first away points this season continues after a tough afternoon at Cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens.
Saints were the first on the board as they looked to prove this was their ground and the day was not going to be an easy one for Chiefs.
The final score: Saints 34 – 19 Exeter Chiefs. Chiefs are fifth in the league table.
Meanwhile there was more misery for Exeter City who fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Fleetwood Town.
All three goals came in the first half, with City, brighter but unable to find a response in the second.
Gary Caldwell named one alteration to the starting eleven. Admiral Muskwe returned to the lineup ahead of Yanick Wildschut, as Ilmari Niskanen made his long-awaited return to the squad.
It took just five minutes for Fleetwood to open the scoring. Ryan Broom exploited a gaping hole in the City defence and slotted the ball past Vil Sinisalo.
The Grecians are now sitting just above the relegation zone.
