November 3, 2018 - Rugby referee Sara Cox made history in Coventry when she became the first woman to officiate a match between two Premiership Rugby sides when Wasps took on Northampton Saints in the Premiership Rugby Cup.
Speaking ahead of the match, the 28 year-old told The Telegraph that she saw herself as equally responsible for encouraging boys and men into refereeing as women.
At a time when the issue of how to increase female participation in sport is an ongoing concern, Cox’s views were striking.
“I want to make sure that I can do my best for the rugby community and keep encouraging women to be involved but also men as well,” she said.
