Chiefs star is charity's guest of honour

Ollie Devoto with Amanda Khon, Westbank's Head of Volunteering and Health and Wellbing Services

Exeter Chiefs star Ollie Devoto was the guest of honour at the official opening of the new Community Cookery School at Westbank, Exminster.

The facility will be used to support members of the community such as young parents, families and the older generation, who may be struggling as a result of the cost-of-living crisis, or who are at risk of loneliness and social isolation.

Westbank is hosting eight-week cookery workshops, teaching participants how to produce a meal from scratch with simple, easily sourced, relatively cheap ingredients.

After each workshop, a wider community group is invited to join participants in a shared meal.  Over time, the plan is to introduce a variety of other workshops, tailored according to the needs of our community.

Support has been provided by the Edward Gostling Foundation, Morrisons Foundation, Garfield Weston, National Lottery Awards for All England, Hubbub, 29th May 1961 Charitable Trust, Veronica Awdry Charitable Trust, The Misses Barrie Charitable Trust and Waitrose

However, the team continue to seek support for the project and would welcome gifts and donations of any size.

If you are a business that may be able to provide further sponsorship or ingredients, or help with all the necessary kit and equipment the team would love to hear from you.

Similarly, they are also keen to hear from people willing to give their time to support our staff in delivering the workshops

Westbank League of Friends was established in 1986 and operated as a registered charity for more than 20 years until it became Westbank Community Health and Care and registered as a company limited by guarantee in 2007.

It works to empower and improve the health of communities and individuals across Devon and to become a voluntary sector leader for development and innovation across Devon and the southwest region.
