Shoppers queued outside ahead of the opening of Exeter's new John Lewis
October 12, 2012 - Department store chain John Lewis opened its first flexible format store in Exeter as it continued with its growth strategy.
Hundreds of shoppers queued outside the building ahead of its opening, rushing to see its range of fashion, beauty, consumer electronics and nursery products.
Attracting the upmarket department store was part of the city's strategy to become Devon's top shopping destination.
The then Exeter City Centre Manager John, Harvey, said: "It's been a really exciting journey. It's a city moving very much in the right direction."
He added: "Over the past few years we have been working hard to revive the high street and provide local residents with the best selection of retailers, restaurants and leisure facilities in Exeter and the surrounding area."
