The new-look Zizzi in Exeter
Zizzi in Exeter has officially reopened the doors to a brand new look and feel following a much-anticipated refurb.
Talented local artist Emma Jones from South Devon, who has been working with Zizzi for a while, was selected to design the murals for the refurbished restaurant.
Emma’s inspiration comes from the unique Gothic architecture of Exeter Cathedral. Palm fronds mirror the tree-like Gothic vaults, and in the background of the mural, the starry night skies pay homage to the ceiling frieze and the astronomical clock housed within the cathedral.
The restaurant also invites guests to discover the ‘Exeter book’ hidden within the mural, the largest and oldest known manuscript of Old English literature. It was important for Emma to feature the book as it is of major importance to Exeter Cathedral, the Cathedral Library and English literature itself.
Inside the revamped restaurant, guests will experience touch points including the iconic Zizzi tree, checkerboard black and white tiles, an updated colour palette throughout and copper pendant lights which make the restaurant feel warm and cosy. The restaurant is finished with neon signs which display fun, modern slogans including “I do not share food.”
Zizzi, at 21 Gandy Street, Exeter will seat 188 people, 120 inside and 68 people outside. The restaurant will be open from 11.30 am – 10 pm, Monday – Sunday.
