September 28, 2022 - Everyone who was eligible for a free flu vaccine and COVID-19 booster was being urged to take up the offer as soon as they were invited to.
Cases of coronavirus were already beginning to rise in Devon and across the UK. Natural immunity against flu was relatively low because, despite it being present the previous winter, coronavirus restrictions had helped protect people from catching it.
People who were older or who had other health conditions that made them vulnerable, were warned they were at the greatest risk.
Steve Brown, Devon’s Director of Public Health, said at the time: “This is a clarion call for everyone in Devon, who is eligible for the free flu vaccine and the coronavirus booster, to come forward as soon as they are invited to do so."
