September 26, 2017 - Two Exeter adventurers were preparing to take on a mountaineering expedition in Nepal to raise money for the care of a four-year-old boy horrifically injured by fire and to buy a bus for his school in Kathmandu.
Exeter and Torbay businessman, Paul Bettesworth and his friend Paul Mattin, from Exeter, were in training for a trip to Nepal in an attempt to summit the towering Lobuche Peak in the Khumbu Region of the high Himalaya.
The climbers were together part of a 2014 team that summited Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak and the highest freestanding mountain in the world.
Lobuche is situated in the infamous upper Khumbu Valley, home to five of the six highest peaks in the world, including Makalu, Lhotse & Everest.
The pair successfully completed the climb in November of the same year.
