Both Jay and his dad Adam played at St James Park for Exeter City
Jay Stansfield has become the new Patron of the Adam Stansfield Foundation.
"It was an obvious choice" said Andrea Parkin, Foundation Trustee and Adams sister. "Ads used to get involved off the field with charities and good causes, so to see Jay interacting with some of the young people we support and work with is not surprising. He’s a natural and is showing many of the traits and attributes that made Adam such a favourite with the fans and supporters."
There is no pressure on Jay to get involved in the day to day running of the Foundation. At this stage of his career, the Foundation want to see him concentrate on his football and helping his teams progress in the leagues.
The Foundations aims are twofold. Firstly, to support grass roots football and help young people get involved and to continue to live a healthy lifestyle. In these difficult times they aim to support youngsters with the basics to enable them to participate in the game Adam loved so much.
Secondly, to raise awareness of Bowel Cancer, working independently and in partnership with other charities to ensure everyone is aware of the symptoms.
