Courses cover areas such as HGV driving and construction trades
A programme offering thousands of adults the chance to retrain for new careers has been launched in Devon for the sixth year running.
The Train4Tomorrow Skills Bootcamps initiative will provide more than 2,000 places on short courses designed to meet local job shortages. Training is free for adults aged 19 and over across Devon, Plymouth and Torbay, with guaranteed interviews for those who complete courses and are seeking work.
The programme is funded by government as part of the national Skills for Life scheme. Courses are designed with employers and cover areas such as HGV driving, construction trades, electric vehicle charger installation, data and artificial intelligence, and early years education.
This year, providers are also putting extra support in place for care-experienced young people, including ring-fenced places, mentoring and practical help to overcome barriers to training.
Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs and Broadband, said the programme would help address critical skills gaps.
“Employers across Devon are crying out for skilled workers, particularly in the early years sector, where shortages are affecting families and the wider economy,” she added.
“Train4Tomorrow responds to these needs by giving local people the skills to succeed and businesses the workforce they need to grow. Whether you’re returning to work, changing careers, or looking to upskill, it offers real training for real jobs — at no cost to the learner.”
