In conversation with Miller Insurance

As Miller Insurance sponsors the Legal Team of the Year award at DASLS 2025, we look at the firm’s 120-year legacy, its growing South West presence, and why risk advice for legal teams is more vital than ever

In conversation with Miller Insurance

With almost a week to go until the DASLS Legal Awards 2025, we caught up with Miller Insurance to explore the firm’s legal sector strategy, its people-first culture, and why the London-headquartered broker is doubling down on its commitment to the South West.

Founded in 1902, Miller Insurance has spent over 120 years helping clients manage the risks they face – from professional indemnity and cybercrime to commercial litigation and regulatory change. Today, the firm works with organisations across more than 200 countries, with offices in key global hubs including London, Paris, Singapore and Bermuda.

Miller’s decision to sponsor the Legal Team of the Year category at this year’s DASLS Awards reflects more than just a marketing initiative. It’s part of a deliberate expansion into the Devon and Somerset legal scene – underpinned by face-to-face conversations, ongoing support, and a genuine understanding of what law firms need from their broker.

That includes growing relationships with firms of all sizes – whether city-based or coastal – and addressing the nuanced risks different practices face.

“Insurance shouldn’t be a once-a-year renewal chore,” the team explains. “It’s about understanding the bigger picture: where the firm is headed, the sectors they’re moving into, and the challenges they’re seeing on the horizon.”

It’s a philosophy that has led Miller to invest heavily in the region – sponsoring events like DASLS, making regular visits to Exeter, and tailoring services to meet the specific regulatory and operational needs of law firms.

Miller was recently named one of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2025, a recognition that speaks to its commitment to employee wellbeing, inclusion, and development. Staff benefit from private medical cover, mental health support, online GP access, and menopause-specific benefits. New parents and carers receive generous allowances, and every employee completes a Chartered Insurance qualification via the in-house Miller Academy.

That investment in people also translates into the client experience, with collaborative internal culture at the heart of the company’s service model.

With the professional indemnity market starting to stabilise after the turbulence of the Covid years, Miller’s focus now turns to deeper partnerships – and helping firms take a more strategic approach to risk.

That includes guidance on cyber coverage, pricing strategy, and bespoke training for legal teams. As hybrid working becomes the norm, the broker is also advising firms on managing distributed teams and adapting policies accordingly.

For Miller, the DASLS Awards are an opportunity to be visible, show support, and keep listening.

“We’re proud to be part of this event,” they add. “And we’re here for the long run – building partnerships that evolve with the legal profession itself.”
