Exeter engineering student to represent region in national awards

Exeter student earns place at UK-wide Women in Property final

An Exeter civil engineering student is one of two South West winners in this year’s Women in Property Student Awards.

Isabel Hall, who is studying BEng Civil Engineering at the University of Exeter, was announced as a regional winner at a ceremony in Bristol on Wednesday 4 June. She will now go on to represent the South West at the national final in London this September.

She was joined by fellow winner Madeleine Yu, a MEng Engineering Design student at the University of Bristol.

The annual awards, now in their 19th year, aim to highlight the achievements of female students in the built environment sector, while promoting greater diversity in an industry currently facing a significant skills shortage.

Judges praised both students for their professionalism and potential. Izzy was described as “engaging throughout”, with judges noting her confidence, initiative and thoughtful responses during the interview process.

The awards evening brought together employers from across property and construction, and was supported regionally by AtkinsRéalis, Stantec and Vattenfall. National sponsors include Amazon and Savills.

Emma Burman and Chloe Llewellin, joint vice chairs of Women in Property South West, said recognising emerging talent was vital for the future of the industry.

George Taylor, associate sustainability consultant at Stantec, said: “We’re delighted to sponsor this year’s awards, which put the talent and hard work of female students across the South West in the spotlight.”

The national final will take place in London on Thursday 18 September, with the overall winner announced at the Best of the Best Dinner at Claridge’s.
