Honouring those who go the extra mile for access to justice

Magdalen Chambers proudly sponsors Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year at DASLS Awards 2025

The Devon and Somerset Law Society (DASLS) Legal Awards are set to honour excellence in the legal profession on Thursday, 19 June 2025.

This year, Exeter-based Magdalen Chambers is proud to sponsor the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year category, highlighting their commitment to supporting solicitors who tirelessly represent clients reliant on legal aid.

Formed from the merger of Southernhay and Rougemont Chambers, Magdalen Chambers brings together a wealth of expertise and a strong regional and national reputation. Based in Exeter, adjacent to the Combined Court and Employment Tribunal, the set also offers specialist mediation facilities.

Members act for individuals, companies, government bodies and local authorities, both locally and across the country. Many are accessible directly by non-lawyers through Direct and Licensed Access schemes. The chambers are widely recognised for their approachable ethos, with Chambers & Partners describing the team as “excellent: friendly, helpful and efficient.” This collaborative set brings together experienced barristers committed not just to legal excellence, but to making the justice system more accessible.

Magdalen Chambers’ sponsorship of the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Award reflects its dedication to public service and the principle that justice should be available to all. The award honours solicitors who show exceptional commitment to their clients and to the legal aid system itself - often persevering through complex, underfunded and emotionally charged cases.

In the coming weeks, we'll sit down with the team at Magdalen Chambers for an in-depth Q&A. They'll share insights into their areas of expertise, the importance of legal aid, and their commitment to supporting the legal community. Stay tuned for this feature on Exeter Today and in the next issue of Exeter Tomorrow.
