A company founded by three University of Exeter PhD students 18 years ago has moved to Exeter Science Park as it continues its rapid expansion.
CALMFLOOR, a pioneering provider of low-carbon solutions for complex building vibration issues, has relocated to the Science Park Centre after outgrowing its previous premises.
The move comes as demand for the company’s innovative technology continues to soar, both in the UK and internationally.
The company’s plug-in unit, powered by multi-frequency software control, offers a faster, more cost-effective, and minimally disruptive alternative to traditional vibration control methods.
Unlike conventional solutions that often require additional steel beams, concrete, or tuned mass dampers, CALMFLOOR’s units can be installed in less than a day and are easily adaptable to future building layout changes.
The company manufactures its units in Colyton and supplies them to both new and existing developments.
As part of its expansion, CALMFLOOR is also set to open an office in New York in April 2025, following increased demand for its products in the United States.
Steven Senior, COO of CALMFLOOR, said: “We are delighted to open our new office at Exeter Science Park. Demand for our product has never been higher, and as the company grows, we needed a flexible space that could grow with us - something that Exeter Science Park offers.”
He continued: “Location was also key. With our expanding team, accessibility was a priority, and we had outgrown our previous space. The excellent transport links, including proximity to the M5 and the airport, were major factors in our decision.”
Highlighting the company’s academic roots, Steven added: “Exeter Science Park is the perfect fit. A couple of our team members have already worked here, and it’s a hub for scaling businesses. The additional breakout areas, meeting rooms, and conference spaces will be invaluable as we continue to grow.”
Jason Buck, Senior Business Development Manager at Exeter Science Park, welcomed CALMFLOOR to the site, saying: “We’re pleased to welcome CALMFLOOR to our growing community. This is an exciting time for them, and we are committed to supporting their continued success. Our flexible leases, range of office and lab spaces, and tailored business support services make Exeter Science Park an ideal environment for innovative companies looking to scale.”
CALMFLOOR’s move to Exeter Science Park marks another milestone in the company’s journey, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and sustainable building solutions as it expands on both sides of the Atlantic.
