Exeter-based Pennon launches £5m Better Futures programme

Exeter-based Pennon launches £5m Better Futures programme

ennon Group, based in Exeter, has launched its £5 million Better Futures programme to provide financial support to individuals and communities across Devon and Cornwall.

The initiative is split into two key components: Hardship Funding and Community Funding. Hardship Funding will offer small grants to individuals and families in financial distress, providing immediate assistance during difficult times. Community Funding will support local organisations focused on physical activity, health and wellbeing, education, and environmental sustainability, ensuring these projects continue to benefit their communities.

Pennon’s main subsidiary, South West Water, supplies water and sewerage services across Devon, Cornwall, and parts of Dorset and Somerset. It accounts for 83% of the group’s profits, making it the core of Pennon’s operations. The company says the Better Futures programme reflects its broader commitment to customer wellbeing and environmental responsibility.

The initiative builds on Pennon’s £200 million customer support programme and its pledge to eliminate water poverty by 2030. Beyond financial assistance, the company aims to create new opportunities for those who may not have had access to resources before.

Ketan Hindocha, Director of Customer Care at Pennon, said: "The wellbeing of every one of our customers is incredibly important to us. We want to go even further in providing support and creating opportunities for positive change."

In addition to Better Futures, Pennon has accepted Ofwat’s Final Determination, which sets out a £3.2 billion investment plan for the next five years. The regulator has praised Pennon’s focus on key priorities, including customer affordability, environmental sustainability, securing safe drinking water supplies, and reducing storm overflows.

This initiative highlights Pennon’s commitment to delivering essential services while making a positive impact on the communities it serves.
