Exeter College Student Award Winners 2025
On Friday, January 17, Exeter College celebrated its 55th anniversary with a special student awards ceremony held at the iconic Exeter Cathedral. This landmark event marked the college’s milestone as the first tertiary institution of its kind in the UK, founded in 1970.
The ceremony highlighted 23 exceptional past and present students, recognising their achievements across academic, professional, and personal milestones.
John Laramy CBE, Principal and Chief Executive at Exeter College, praised the students' accomplishments, saying: "This year’s award winners truly reflect the impact of a collaborative education system. They have shown remarkable ambition, teamwork, and energy." Laramy also thanked the event's sponsors for their vital support.
Sir Michael Barber KB, Chancellor of the University of Exeter, delivered the evening’s keynote address, stressing the importance of raising skill standards across the South West. “Exeter College is outstanding, and events like this are crucial for recognising diverse achievements,” he said.
Among the award winners was Megan Ginsberg, who received the Higher Apprentice of the Year Award. She is currently pursuing a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship at Exeter University and working with AtkinsRéalis as an Assistant Project Manager. "Exeter College gave me a solid foundation to build my career," said Ginsberg.
Finn Phillips, who earned five A*s at A-Level, was honored for Academic Excellence. He is now studying Maths and Physics at the University of Bath. "I am grateful for the two years I spent at Exeter College, and this award is a wonderful reminder of my time there," Phillips said.
Hasina Rahmani, who joined the college community in 2021, was named ESOL Student of the Year. Having progressed from community classes to studying professional cookery, Rahmani commented: "This award proves the hard work I’ve put into studying and the opportunities it has created for my future."
Other notable winners included Annabel Hodnett, who received the Higher Technical Learner of the Year Award, and Ayomide Okesola, who earned the #ExeCollProud Award for her leadership and involvement in college life.
The evening was a celebration not just of individual successes but of the collective efforts of the entire Exeter College community, from students and staff to industry partners.
