Sally Basker, Chief Executive of Exeter Science Park, has been appointed Chair of the United Kingdom Science Park Association (UKSPA).
The announcement came during the UKSPA Annual General Meeting, marking a new chapter in Basker’s distinguished career after previously serving as Vice Chair.
Basker expressed her enthusiasm for the role, saying: “I’m honoured to have been appointed Chair of UKSPA and excited to collaborate with members, partners, and stakeholders to create opportunities across the UK’s Science Park sector.
“This is a pivotal moment for science and technology, and I look forward to working to influence and shape its future on a national scale. Science Parks are key to fostering innovation, supporting businesses, and driving regional economic growth, and I’m committed to ensuring UKSPA remains a strong voice for its members.”
As part of her appointment, it was announced that Exeter Science Park will host the UKSPA Spring Conference on March 13 and 14, 2025.
The event will bring together industry leaders, stakeholders, and UKSPA network members for two days of discussion on critical topics and best practices in the sector.
Conference sessions will focus on key themes such as:
- Funding Beyond the Golden Triangle
- Sustainable and Effective Incubation Ecosystems
- The Journey to Net Zero Carbon Science
- Navigating Volatile Market Conditions in Procurement
Basker emphasised the significance of the upcoming event, “Hosting the Spring Conference at Exeter Science Park is an incredible opportunity for our region and a testament to the growing impact of the Science Park on our local economy. We are looking forward to showcasing the South West’s innovation ecosystem and engaging in vital discussions that will help drive the sector forward.”
Founded in 1984, UKSPA supports the growth of Science Parks, Technology Incubators, Innovation Centres, and other hubs of innovation across the UK. The association plays a vital role in fostering innovation, supporting businesses, and driving regional economic growth.
Basker’s appointment highlights the critical role Exeter Science Park plays in shaping both regional and national innovation landscapes, further solidifying its reputation as a hub for technological and entrepreneurial excellence.
