Businesses benefit from Science Park investment event

Ed Tellwright Senior Manager for the British Business Bank in the South West addresses the audience

More than 60 people signed up for a special event at Exeter Science Park to find out more about raising business investment.

The free ‘Meet the Funder’ informal session was arranged in partnership with the British Business Bank and the Science Park and was attended by two local angel investors, Nick Sprague and Dave Gough.

Attendees at the event were mainly from early-stage businesses or SMEs across sectors including environment and net zero, Software as a Service (SaaS), cybersecurity, engineering, health tech and digital/IT.

Also speaking at the event was Ed Tellwright Senior Manager for the British Business Bank in the South West.

The event was designed to guide business owners through the mind of an investor, explore their thinking when looking at opportunities and question their approach or thoughts on their own business proposition. Following the discussion, the investors met individually with a number of attendees.

Jason Buck, senior business development manager at Exeter Science Park, said: “This was a fascinating and informative event. It was great to welcome such a wide range of innovative businesses, and we are pleased to be able to offer these opportunities for organisations based at the park, as well as the wider south west business community.”

Further events are planned with the British Business Bank on May 15 and September 25 and into 2025.

For its next event, the Science Park is partnering with the FSE Group, an investment group based at the Park which supports businesses with loans and equity funding to help them reach their growth potential. They will be holding a panel discussion with representatives from Tech South West, FSE Group, Innovate UK, Qantx and Set Squared Exeter on ‘The Investment Journey’ at the Science Park on Tuesday, April 16.

The event, which takes place from 8.30am until 11.30am, is for start-ups and pre or post revenue companies looking for investment opportunities and to understand the market. Opportunities for networking will be included as well as optional tours of the Science Park.

Places for this session are limited. For more information, visitwww.exetersciencepark.co.uk/eventsatthepark
