Alpaca Café to debut this May

Lakemoor Alpacas to star in first-of-its-kind café experience at the Devon County Show

Alpaca Café to debut this May

Visitors to this year’s Devon County Show will have the chance to enjoy coffee and cake in the company of four friendly alpacas, as the event prepares to launch its first-ever Alpaca Café.

The new feature will run twice a day from Thursday 15 to Saturday 17 May, offering a relaxed café-style experience within the Alpaca Ring.

Guests will be seated at patio tables while Lakemoor Alpacas’ resident animals - Ron, Hagrid, Sirius and Alby - roam the space.

Each session will host 24 pre-booked visitors, with time to hand-feed the alpacas, enjoy refreshments and take photos.

The café is free to attend, though donations to the show’s chosen charity, Pete’s Dragons, are encouraged. A suggested £2 per adult will go towards supporting suicide bereavement services in Devon.

Mark Norman, owner of Lakemoor Alpacas, said the concept has already proven popular abroad:

“Alpaca cafés have taken off across Europe, but here in the UK, they’re still something new. We love coming to Devon County Show each year - this year, we wanted to try something different. Hagrid, in particular, will do just about anything for a carrot.”

Lisa Moore, Show Manager at Devon County Show, added:

“We’re always first on the agricultural show calendar, and we pride ourselves on bringing fresh experiences. Everyone loves alpacas, this is going to be a huge hit.”

The Alpaca Café joins a packed 2025 programme for the show, which continues to blend traditional agricultural showcases with family-friendly entertainment and new interactive features.

Alpaca Café sessions will take place at 11am and 3pm daily in the Alpaca Ring. Pre-booking is required due to limited capacity.
