World Poetry Slam Champion, viral poet and TED Talk favourite Harry Baker is extending his sell-out Wonderful tour — and Exeter is on the list.
Following last year’s 35-date sell-out run, Baker’s latest show Wonderful 2.0 will stop at Exeter Phoenix on Sunday, 5 May, one of 40 newly added dates due to overwhelming demand.
Celebrated for his unique blend of heartfelt vulnerability and razor-sharp humour, Baker’s live shows are described as part poetry gig, part stand-up set, part group therapy.
Covering everything from fertility journeys and friendship to sunflowers and silly knees, his new show promises more fan favourites, new work, and an emotional ride that will have audiences “laughing through tears or crying with laughter – dream scenario, both.”
“I think I fall somewhere between a band and a stand-up – people want the hits but expect new stuff too,” said Baker. “So I’ve kept in the classics and added new poems about everything that’s happened since, including (finally and joyfully) having a baby.”
A poet, mathematician and performer, Baker became the youngest ever World Poetry Slam Champion in 2012. Since then, he’s shared stages across the world – from the Dubai Opera House to the Royal Albert Hall – and earned more than 20 million views on social media. His work has been featured on TED.com, Radio 1, and at festivals including Glastonbury and Greenbelt.
This year’s tour culminates in two performances at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre on 18 and 19 July. Baker will also appear in Plymouth (21 May) and Bude (4 May) as part of the Westcountry leg of the tour.
The Exeter date is expected to sell out, with limited tickets available here.
Harry’s latest poetry collection Wonderful was released in May 2024 and will be available at gigs and bookshops nationwide.
