6 fun fitness classes to try in Exeter this February (most of them free!)
Exeter is teeming with fun, friendly fitness classes, exercise clubs, walking groups - many of them completely free. Here’s a handful to get stuck into this February…
INCLUSIVE EXETER BADMINTON
What: These sessions are for anyone wanting to pick up the sport or improve their skills
Where: Wonford Sports Centre
When: Every Sunday, 12-2pm
Cost: Free
EXETER RIVERSIDE PARKRUN
What: Weekly 5km community walk, jog or run around Exeter Quay and Riverside Valley Park (There are also parkruns at Killerton, Haldon and Cranbrook and a 2km junior parkrun at Heavitree Pleasure Grounds)
Where: Starts by the bridges over the Exeter Ship Canal at the southern end of the Quay
When: Every Saturday, 9am (junior parkrun: Sundays, 9am)
Cost: Free
FREEMOOVEMENT CLASSES
What: Volunteer-led community exercise classes in Exeter's parks for all levels of fitness (Also check out Freeplay: play sessions in parks; Freewheelin: social cycle rides in the summer)
Where: Sessions currently take place in Cowick Barton Playing Fields , Belmont Park, Heavitree Pleasure Grounds, St Thomas Pleasure Grounds and West Garth Road Park
When: Weekday sessions start at 6.30pm and weekend sessions at 9am (see website for session times at your nearest park)
Cost: Free
WESTBANK HEALTH WALKS
What: Graded volunteer-led walks in locations across Exeter. Walks range from less than 30 minutes on the flat (level 1) to up to 90 minutes with the odd hill (level 3)
Where: Walks currently take place in Heavitree, Exeter City Centre, Exeter Quay, Wonford, Countess Wear and on Exeter University campus
When: Various days, walks start at 10.30am except Countess Wear 10.40am (see website for walk days at each location)
Cost: Free
EXETER PICKLEBALL CLUB
What: Pickleball is a new racket sport that is rapidly growing in popularity. Think a mix of tennis and table tennis, played on a badminton court
Where: Exeter Leisure have sessions at both Wonford and Riverside sports centres, new players are always welcome and equipment is available for beginners to borrow

Cost: Booking through Exeter Leisure App. Free for "Sports" members and £3.50 per session for "Pay as You Go" members - download the app (no paid membership necessary)

YOGA WITH WENDY BROOKING
What: Yoga for all; movement and breath to ease the mind and body
Where: Exwick Parish Hall, 66 Station Road
When: Every Thursday, 5.20-6.30pm
Cost: £5 unwaged, £7 waged
