The new racing season is almost upon us at Newton Abbot Racecourse and the 2026 summer will bring a special opportunity for the superb stable staff.

"We were thrilled with the support last season from so many trainers up and down the land,” said CEO John Baker.

“The work and dedication of stable staff in producing their runners so beautifully turned out has persuaded us to offer a cash prize of £5,000 to the yard achieving the most best-turned-out horse awards throughout the season.

“We have a best-turned-out award (£60 to the groom) in every race and to keep it nice and simple, one point will be awarded to the yard winning each award.

“We will publish a table in the following meetings' racecard and at the end of the season we will present £5,000 to the yard with the most points "

"Newton Abbot feel that the effort and professionalism of stable staff should be recognised "

Fourteen times Champion Jumps Trainer Paul Nicholls and leading Trainer at Newton Abbot last season added: “Newton Abbot provides a terrific service during the summer and offers excellent prize money. This best-turned-out award is a great idea and if the Ditcheat team can win it, my staff will enjoy sharing the £5,000."

Gates open at midday for the opening fixture on Easter Saturday and Newton Races are inviting racegoers to stick around after the packed card for a Party in the Paddock, featuring live music from ‘The Shrine’. And remember kids go free at Newton Abbot.
