Two of Bideford Boxing Club’s growing professional stable will feature on the Valentine’s Day Massacre show in Torquay on February 14.

Celtic Light Heavyweight Champion Aaron Bird will be back in the ring after his unsuccessful challenge for a European Title last time out, he features in a six-round contest.

Kaidan Symons makes his pro debut in a four-round contest in the middleweight division. Symons had a successful amateur career with Falmouth ABC and is tipped to do big things in the pro ranks.

Manager/ Trainer Richard Grigg said: “It’s great to have pro boxing back in Devon, we have some top boxers coming through now and several champions, meaning the shows will keep getting bigger and better.

“Aaron Bird is still a massive force in boxing and has a lot to give, we took the gamble in his last fight with a big step up, we didn’t get the result but definitely gained from the experience. A win in Torquay will put Bird right back in the mix and into another big title fight in May.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Kaidan Symons get his career underway, he won titles in the amateur ranks, he brings a big following from Cornwall with his exciting style and is improving all the time and I’m sure we can build him towards titles.”

One of Bideford’s amateur prospects Rocky Grigg spent the weekend training in Doncaster with Matchroom professional Heavyweight Dave Allen. Grigg is currently training for the England Boxing Youth Championships, he went through some intensive training session and gained lots of advice and experience from the 34-fight veteran.
