Police incident sees Barnstaple bridge closed during rush hour

The road is now open and traffic has eased following an earlier incident at Taw Bridge in Barnstaple

Taw Bridge in Barnstaple.

Police were called during rush hour at 8.35am today (Monday, December 22) following concern for the welfare of a man on the Taw Bridge in Barnstaple.

The road was closed while police officers and paramedics worked to assist the casualty.

Devon & Cornwall Police said a man in 30s was taken to North Devon District Hospital and left in the care of health professionals.

Traffic queues persisted for some time but reports suggest it was flowing freely again by lunchtime.
